OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Ibero-American
Graphic Humor Award “Quevedos” 2026
![]() The General Foundation of the University of Alcalá officially announces the call for the “Quevedos” Ibero-American Graphic Humor Award for the year 2026.
I. Purpose and Scope
The award aims to distinguish the professional career of graphic humorists (cartoonists, caricaturists, and comic strip artists) within the Ibero-American community whose work has had significant social and artistic impact.
Professional Career: Defined for this call as a demonstrable track record extending over more than 15 years.
II. Prize Endowment
The award is endowed with 30,000 (thirty thousand) euros.
The prize may not be divided, declared void, or awarded posthumously (unless the author passes away after the jury’s verdict has been reached).
Funding is provided via the Ministry of Culture in accordance with Royal Decree 663/2025.
III. Presentation of Candidates
Eligible candidates must be from any of the following countries:
Andorra, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Paraguay, Portugal, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
Nomination Authority: Candidates (up to a maximum of three per entity) may be proposed by:
Ibero-American Embassies in Spain.
Spanish Embassies in Ibero-American countries.
Associations and institutions related to graphic humor or the press.
Individual members of the Jury.
Self-nominations are strictly prohibited.
Proposals must include a summary of merits, a report on published works, and accompanying graphic documentation.
IV. Deadline and Submission
Deadline: 60 calendar days from the publication in the “Official Gazette of the Community of Madrid” (BOCM), ending on May 18, 2026.
Submission: Proposals and documentation must be sent via email to quevedos@iqh.es.
V. The Jury
The jury, appointed by the Director General of the Foundation, will include:
A previous award winner.
The Director General of Books, Comics, and Reading of the Ministry of Culture.
The Director of Cultural and Scientific Relations of the AECID.
The Director General of the General Foundation of the University of Alcalá.
A Director of the Quevedo Institute of the Arts of Humor (IQH).
Four experts of recognized prestige in culture and media.
A Secretary (with voice but no vote).
VI. Verdict and Awarding
The winner will be chosen by a simple majority through a secret ballot.
The jury will evaluate the candidates’ professional trajectory, cultural values, and social projection.
The official decision will be published on the IQH website before the end of 2026.
VII. Award Ceremony
The prize will be presented at the Paraninfo of the University of Alcalá. The specific date will be announced on the official website of the Quevedo Institute of the Arts of Humor.
